Ellen’s work stems from the emotions surrounding loss, focusing on loss of the physical and what the people we lose leave behind. With the death of her own mother at the age of 9 these emotions have a childlike familiarity to them that feeds the aesthetic of her work. The materials were chosen carefully to illustrate tangible feelings of the emotions tied to loss. With thin sterling silver representing the delicacy of bereavement and concrete showing the weight of grief. Using the medium of jewellery and the everyday form of the jewellery box to ask, what is left behind?
