From chairs and lights to consumer products and environmental objects, product design is about enriching quality of life, whether in the home, workplace, or public domain. It can provide ways of answering unmet needs, improving function and appearance, or offer new ways of critically engaging with objects and experiences. Product Design is fundamentally about making things better.
Students develop their skills within a creative art and design school environment, underpinned by technical expertise and extensive links with industry. The programme is delivered primarily within the design studio with projects tackling a wide range of issues from consumer product design to sustainable design, service design and design for social impact. Through these projects students develop core skills in human centered research, sketching, CAD modelling, rapid prototyping and visual communication.
Product Design at NCAD has developed a strong international reputation for producing graduates whose common strengths lie in the creation of innovative designs, products and services.
