The MA Socially Engaged Art and Further Education is a Level 9, taught masters degree focusing on the dynamic relationship between socially engaged arts practice and pedagogy, particularly within further education, non-formal educational and community settings. Immersed in a trans-disciplinary space, students have the opportunity to develop their practices as socially engaged practitioners and as educators within the Further Education sector.
Sites and spaces for engagement and learning are constantly evolving in response to multiple global, political and technological changes. Artists and educators inform and drive change through creative, reflective, and interventionist practices. Recognising the range of methodologies used in socially engaged practice that draw on educational concepts and forms and the important position of the FE sector in offering learning opportunities to diverse students locally, nationally and internationally, the MA SEA+FE is a site for experimental learning, skills acquisition and critical debate in this transdisciplinary field. The programme is recognised by the Teaching Council of Ireland, on successful completion students are qualified to teach with further education settings.
