My collection is about questioning the concept of what is considered ‘feminine’. This is inspired by my time in an all-girls secondary school, as I was told what I should like and dislike because of gender. One of the odd things that I was told was that girls shouldn’t like shrivelled up seaweed because it was ‘slimy and disgusting’. The shape of my pieces is based on seaweed I found on the beach and the coral pink layer is to test if people would consider it feminine by just the colour alone.
