Tradition is the ecology of people, without it our surroundings become monetised, culture becomes homogenised through media and modes of self-sustainability are lost. The introduction of home entertainment has diluted the understanding of local environments and tacit knowledge. This heavily fuelled western entertainment economy spreads through cultures distracting people from their own environments while colonising via homogenisation of culture. A comparison can be drawn here between 19th century ornamental plant hunting and 21st century home entertainment, both are aesthetic forms brought from overseas with no intentional threat yet become an invasive species posing a threat to the ecology of a natural environment.
