Cullen’s work is a series of digital performances, performed by the artist wearing digital personas to critique online social cultures. Cullen adopts the role of various technologies, gynoids, beauty gurus, monsters and cyborgs along with choreography and aesthetics borrowed from online beauty culture and viral videos. She creates alternate digital narratives which subvert the codes of these contexts. In an age that celebrates freedom of identity, it has never been more fractured and policed. Identity and politics are blurring together, accelerated by online culture. Her work pulls apart these identity politics and challenges the ideas they are based upon.
