Ali Farrelly
Hoovers

I strive to break down the barriers of isolation that inanimate “stuff” places between us by recognising flaws in objects that bring us closer to them and by commending objects for just working.
I de-familiarise objects through simplification, focusing on one function. De-familiarisation rewards me with freedom, enabling fluid perceptions, new realities and acknowledgment of the absurd.
I collect discarded objects in which I find great joy in seeking-out. I learn about these objects through play. Relishing in working alongside physical limitations, including them in the process rather than working against them. The spaces my objects inhabit are carefully considered.
